Why Do You Struggle Building New Daily Routines?
Have you ever started a new routine?
Did you succeed the first time you tried to implement it?
What’s wrong with you? I’m just kidding!
We’re all human and struggle when learning something new or trying to do something that we’ve been doing for years in a new way.
Let me tell you a bit about a current struggle that I have. My husband has wanted to try a low carb/sugar diet. I’ve not been a fan of the idea. I’ve spent my entire life craving sweets and starches. Pastries, potatoes, chocolate, and pasta are all my favorite food groups. Yes, I know those are not food groups, but you get the idea. In case you don’t, I believed in dessert after every meal; including breakfast. LOL
After much debate and prodding, I’ve agreed to give it a try. It hasn’t been too bad. Of course, it has only been a week and I had a headache for 5 of the 7 days. I’ve also fudged a little bit and had a little chocolate here and there; and a half of a tomato basil wrap. I still consider it a success! So far…
What would be one of the main reasons that I could fall in the future?
Decision Fatigue – It’s wonderful that we have all kinds of choices at our fingertips, but it isn’t always the best. For example, if I’m faced with deciding what to have for supper, without a previous menu planned, what am I more likely to decide on? Slow and complicated? Or fast and easy? Let me get more specific.
My husband and I are talking on the phone at the end of a long work day.
“What would you like for supper honey?”
My husband replies, “I don’t care, dear.”
“Me either, honey.”
I added the dear and honey parts for my Leave it to Beaver fantasy. Re-runs people! I’m not that old.
Anyway, humor me for a minute while I pretend my husband and I are more like Ward and June instead of Al and Peg Bundy. So after a long exchange of, “I don’t care”, I decide to hit up Taco Tuesday for dollar tacos and discount margaritas instead of grilling chicken with mixed veggies and salad.
There went my fledgling low carb/sugar diet.
